Casar de Vide, the new winery in the Ribeiro Designation of Origin acquired by the group that is chaired by Carlos Moro, has just finished its first production. In total, 55,000 kilos of albariño, treixadura, godello and torrontés grapes of “exceptional quality” have been introduced into the winery, according to Carlos Moro.
The chairman of Bodegas Familiares Matarromera decided last July to strengthen the company’s winemaking presence in Galicia by establishing the Casar de Vide winery, located in the municipality of Castrelo de Miño, in the Province of Ourense. Its aim is to use local grapes to produce white wines that stand out for their elegance and subtlety, conveying freshness and delicacy and contributing to the increasing fame and international recognition of the Designation of Origin.
The winery is located in the heart of the Ribeiro Designation of Origin, the oldest of its kind in Galicia, just a few metres from the Miño River. Thanks to this acquisition, the group founded and chaired by Carlos Moro now has ten wineries throughout the most important designations of origin in Spain. Casar is the name given to traditional Galician homes and Vide comes from its membership to the Concello de Vide, well-known for its traditional vine cultivation.
The winery is located in the very heart of the Ribeiro Designation of Origin, the oldest in Galicia, and aims to become one of the region’s winemaking benchmarks where excellence and quality are essential identifying characteristics, both in their production methods and in their well-regarded wines.
