The 2015 Granza Crianza organic red wine from the Toro Denomination of Origin has been awarded a silver medal at the Ecovino Organic Wine Competition. This brand already encompasses four organic wines which are all produced in reference denominations of origin within Spain: Granza Eco Verdejo Rueda, Granza Eco Roble Ribera del Duero, Granza Eco Roble Toro and Granza Crianza Toro.

The ninth edition of this competition included organic wines from all over the world. The aim of the competition is to promote the production of organic wine, supporting the concepts of caring for the environment and respecting nature as well as improving the visibility of the best organic wines on an international level. The jury was made up of 30 highly renowned expert tasters who awarded points for the wines through a rigorous blind tasting process. The Ecovino awards ceremony will take place on 22 June in Logroño.
This organic wine is produced by Bodega Cyan, a winery located in the Toro Denomination of Origin which adheres to the Organic Agriculture Regime and is owned by Bodegas Familiares Matarromera. The wine is an organic red which has been aged for 12 months in French and American oak barrels. It is of a pronounced cardinal red colour with deep purplish tones, dense in colour and intense on the nose and notable for its fresh red and black fruits which combine with the touches that are to be expected of the wine’s barrel ageing process: spices, coffee, liquorice and more. This is a highly expressive wine with a backbone of sweet tannins and a moderate acidity which lends a certain freshness.

The labels of the Granza organic wines are manufactured from organic paper created from a base of grape residues, and Granza is the first Spanish food and agriculture brand to use this type of labels. The use of “Grape Touch”, the name given to the paper used to create these labels, is entirely in line with the philosophy that has been a part of this brand since its origins, as the paper for the labels is created using grape residues instead of 15% new tree pulp. The residue is used as a natural primary material for creating labels which have a highly distinctive appearance and texture.

Granza Organic Wines

Granza Organic Wines stand out as a result of their defining characteristic, which is that they are more “natural” wines which show a greater level of respect for the aromas of the grape varieties and the flavours of the earth. The tasks involved in the production of these wines – in both the vineyard and in the wine cellar – revolve around organic production methods which limit the application of plant protection products, systematic prevention products and synthesised chemicals such as pesticides, herbicides and chemical fertilisers, relying only on natural products which are considered to be environmentally friendly.

The Bodega Cyan winery in the Toro Denomination of Origin, the Renacimiento winery in the Ribero del Duero and the Emina Rueda winery, all signatories of the Organic Agriculture Regime, enable Bodegas Familiares Matarromera to produce wines of this category. These wines respond to a new market demand: a wine consumer that is more aware of the importance of respecting the environment and the principles of sustainability and is increasingly focused on consuming healthier products.
