Carlos Moro, president of the Bodegas Familiares Matarromera, awarded the Matarromera Golden Insignia today to Javier Angulo, Director of the Valladolid International Film Festival, for his important work on, and commitment to, the dissemination of art and culture in our country and, specifically, of cinema in Valladolid.
The insignia was awarded in the Bodega Matarromera, located in Valbuena de Duero, where the Bilbao journalist was able to visit the winery facilities. He has been directing the Valladolid International Film Festival for the last ten years alongside Teresa Lapuente, Marketing Director of the Sitges festival, who accompanied the director to visit the riverside winery.
Over the last few years, Bodegas Familiares Matarromera has been collaborating with and supporting this prestigious festival, as a demonstration of its support for the so-called “seventh art”, through its various wineries located in the Castilla y León Guarantee of Origin sites Ribera del Duero, Rueda, Cigales and Toro.
According to Carlos Moro, president of the wine company, “we must recognise these types of people who will remain in the history of a country or of a region due to leaving behind them a course that charts the present and future of our evolution. Wine, like cinema, is an art for all those who have a passion for the land and a love of vineyards”.
This insignia is the highest honour that the Valladolid company awards to various personalities of the political, economic, gastronomic or cultural sphere who carry out outstanding work in the development of our region and in the growth of our country. The ambassador of Mexico to Spain Roberta Lajous, Óscar Puente, Tomás Burgos, Fernando Rey and Josefa García Cirac are among those who have received this recognition from Carlos Moro.

Javier Angulo Barturen (Bilbao, 1949) is a Spanish journalist linked to the world of cinema. He studied Journalism and founded the magazine Cinemanía in 1995, directing it until 2006. He has collaborated with the channel SER throughout his professional career, and with the Festival of Málaga over the last ten years, forming part of its selection committee.
In 2007 he launched TVMálaga, the first Spanish cinema and fiction for television festival. His narrative side is also worthy of mention, the products of which include ‘Ibarrola, a cursed painter?’ and ‘The powerful influence of Jamón, jamón.’ Javier Angulo makes his debut as a scriptwriter and cinema director with the film ‘La Pérdida’, a documentary feature on the brain drain caused by the Argentinian dictatorship. He has been Director of the Valladolid International Film Festival since 2008.
